Orphan ministry opportunity for your church

Child abandonment in Ukraine peaked in the early 1990s. Tens of thousands of children were left without parental care, forced to survive in the streets and sewers.

During this crisis, Christian churches united to help. Volunteers found street children, fed them, and built relationships with them. Many churches opened Christian institutions to place orphans into foster families and provide essential support.

It is crucial for Christians to understand the struggles of orphans and to help them. Above all, the Church and followers of Jesus Christ are called to pray. The Bible says, “The fervent prayer of the righteous is very mighty” (James 5:16). Caring for orphans must begin with prayer. The solutions and the fulfillment of their needs start with earnest, daily prayer.

Since Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine began in February 2022, orphan conditions have continued to worsen. More than 15,000 children have lost their parents due to war casualties.

For several years, My Home has been actively engaging churches in the Kherson region to pray for orphans through the One Church, One Child project.

This initiative connects a local church with a specific orphan. The church commits to praying for the child throughout the process of placement into a loving family. The impact on the children’s physical and emotional well-being is remarkable!

Recently, nine more churches joined the project, each praying for a specific child awaiting family placement. In just three weeks, three children from one family with developmental challenges were placed into loving Christian homes:

  • Pavlo, age 7 – a quiet, calm boy with a psychological developmental delay.
  • Olesya, age 7 – hardly speaks and does not read or write.
  • Lyudmila, age 10 – a very active child who cannot yet read or count.

We praise God that these children have found families thanks to God’s grace in response to prayer!

Today, another woman from a participating church expressed her desire to adopt a child, and we have already begun guiding her through the adoption process.

We believe that the church in America shares our values of praying for and caring for orphans. We invite American churches to join the One Church, One Child project as a prayer ministry for orphans in Ukraine.

Please join My Home in God’s plan to care for orphans in Ukraine—starting with prayer!
