Summer Camp in Frontline Kherson: 5 Days of Joy, Hope, and God’s Word for Children

Despite the daily danger of shelling, the team of My Home Foundation, together with Golgotha Church and volunteers, organized a summer camp for children in Kherson region. For five days, boys and girls listened to Bible stories, played, sang, and felt care and love. Much of the program took place in a shelter, and every outdoor activity was carefully monitored to ensure safety from enemy drones.

This year’s camp theme was “Your Journey with God.” Each day was dedicated to Bible stories and their practical application in everyday life. The children learned that even in the darkest times, God is near, supporting and leading them on a path of hope.

The security situation in Kherson remains challenging: constant shelling, threats from enemy drones, and mines. For this reason, the camp was held in the shelter of Golgotha Church. Here, children could feel safe, talk, create, draw, and pray.

Whenever the weather and situation allowed, the children were taken outside for games and activities. During these moments, part of the team carefully watched the sky to ensure that in case of danger, the children could be quickly brought back to the shelter. This required extra effort but gave them a breath of fresh air and a sense of freedom.

Five days at camp became a true island of joy, warmth, and care for the children. They not only heard words of encouragement from adults but also learned about the One who gives life and teaches us to trust Him in any circumstance.

Pavlo Smolyakov, pastor of Golgotha Church and representative of the My Home team, shared:
“We saw hope awakening in these children, even in the midst of war. They laughed, prayed, and shared their dreams. For me, this is proof that God’s love is stronger than fear and shelling. Even in a basement, under the sound of explosions, you can experience a true celebration of the heart.”

Supporting children in frontline areas is not only about fun or leisure. It is about their spiritual and emotional well-being, about planting seeds of faith in their hearts that will help them stand firm in the face of the challenges of war.

We are sincerely grateful to everyone who helped make this camp possible:

  • The team, who served with love and patience

  • Volunteers and helpers, who ensured safety and comfort

  • Sponsors, who made this time possible

  • Prayer partners, who daily asked God for protection and peace

Together, we were able to give the children not only bright memories but also another step forward on their journey with God.
