A Family’s Legacy of Giving: Rob and Margaret Evans’ Heart for My Home Ministry
The journey of Rob and Margaret Evans with My Home Ministry in Ukraine began years ago, rooted in personal connections and a shared mission. Their support, which began with participation in a Master Provisions clothing drive in 1996, is a testament to the power of trust and a heart for vulnerable children.
For the Evanses, the decision to support My Home was rooted in relationship and faith. Having met Roger Babik through his brother and sister-in-law at the NMC in Indianapolis in 1995, this personal relationship provided a crucial foundation for their giving. Rob and Margaret emphasize that, thanks to Roger, they knew their donations were reaching the children in the Kherson, Ukraine, region.
Because Margaret was adopted, she felt a profound connection to the ministry’s work. Her background was instrumental in helping her understand the critical importance of the basic needs My Home provides to orphans. Furthermore, given their backgrounds, both Rob and Margaret recognized the need and shared a commitment to serving children in need.
Their family’s own challenges amplify their desire to assist children, as their granddaughter, Rubye, has undergone several heart surgeries. While they temporarily reduced the amount of financial support given to My Home to help meet Rubye’s needs, their understanding of hardship only deepened their empathy for the children My Home serves.
The faith-based mission of My Home was key to their support. Rob articulates the desired outcome of the work, stating, “It is important that these adoptions lead to the children learning about Christ, and it’s important that they can stay within their culture.” Their giving is an investment in the spiritual and cultural well-being of the children.
Ultimately, their decades-long financial partnership is defined by a profound, quiet fulfillment. Margaret sums it up best, saying it was important “To know that we’ve been able to help in some small way.”
When asked what advice they would give to people considering whether to support the ministry, the Evanses offer a clear, compelling answer: “Just do it.”
